108

I’ve recently become aware of this thing called Yoga.  It’ll never catch on, but I like it so I’m willing to give it a good go.

Of course I’m just joking you (to quote my eldest little one).  But I have only recently found it for myself.  It’s amazing.  It’s everything I hoped it would be and I’m so glad that the Universe and the Divine pointed me in the right direction precisely at the time it did.

To say I’m hooked would be an understatement.  However, as committed as I have been to getting to yoga classes, or 1:1 sessions, I feel I could do more. I want to do more. I’ve found every reason under the sun for this, but long and short of it is that they’re all excuses.

I went to a yoga event last weekend – organised for the International Yoga Day 2017 at a Hindu Temple in Derby.  It was amazing quite frankly.  I sat there quietly before it began and felt like crying – with happiness.  I felt excitement, joy, peace, and I just couldn’t wait for it to start.

And then it started.  And again – it was amazing. But on the way home I was struck by how much more I want to be connected to yoga.  At this point in time I think I’d eat sleep and breathe it if I could.

Well fast forward a few days and I find myself thinking of a friendship I have.  I think of how that relationship has changed over the years and how it seems to have evolved, the good times and quite frankly the hurt over the years.

A thought struck me.  Can one dedicate their yoga practise to something? To someone?  I’m not even sure where the idea came from – but there it was, rattling around my head. There is so much more I could write on this matter, but then it changes the focus of the intent.  I’m only writing this as a record of when it will start and what it will be.  A bit of accountability on my part to keep me focused.

As the title of the blog post says 108.  108 is a sacred number in Yoga, and Hinduism, and I’m not listing them all here – Google will tell you what you need to know if you search for 108 and yoga.

But I have set my intent. I’m not going to say what it is, but starting on the 21st June, International Yoga Day and the Summer Equinox, I will be starting 108 days of consecutive yoga practise, dedicated to the intent set.

I’m not sure I’ll be up before the sun each day, but I will be doing 12 Sun Salutations as a minimum.  I may add on other things, but the core of it is 12 Surya Namaskar followed by a 108 breath meditation.

If you fancy joining me in this, set your own intent – keep it private, and join me on Facebook by tagging #108days.

Namaskar.
